Obituary of Dominic Adele Ault
Dominic (Nikki) Ault, a resident of Beaverlodge, Alberta passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 in Beaverlodge, at the age of 39 years.
Nicki was born on April 25, 1976 in the Quesnel Hospital and was 9lbs 12 oz. Nicki had many names as a child, Auntie Bobbie called her Noodle and when she was a baby we called her Froggie because she bounced and hopped instead of walked. Later on she acquired the names Gramma Jones and The Bag Lady as she always carried a bag of clothes with her whenever the family went visiting.
Even as a child, Nicki was a person of extremes, there was no middle ground. One time she came home from school, very mad at the neighbor boy. Nicki went over to his house to “flatten him with a shovel” but came home shortly after crying, as he was ready for her with a rake. In middle school Nicki took on a bully and knocked him from the hallway through a wall and into a classroom. She was outraged with the school suspension for performing a public service.
Nicki loved her sister Tara and they were inseparable. Their brothers, Cody and Colin loved to torment and tease them, however, if they were in trouble they would protect each other. Mom would have to separate them and grill them to gain the truth, like the time they built a fort on the front porch with a bathroom. The kids loved to fire off rockets and give each other dryer rides. Time out in their rooms usually involved a remote control car used to pack notes between their rooms about the common enemy, Mom. Every Sunday Nicki went to Sunday School with her brothers and sister where she loved to sing in the choir. She had a beautiful voice. Nicki loved seniors and volunteered as a candy striper at the Quesnel Hospital.
In 1993 the family moved to Dawson Creek and in April 1995 her sister, Tara, passed away. Nicki later met Vince Lindstrom. They married and brought their son, Clayton into the world. Although the marriage did not last, Vince and Nicki remained close friends. Nicki met Stephen Hosking and brought Colten into the world. She was not afraid to make hard choices and had to make several in order to provide a stable life for her sons. Nicki loved them deeply and was very proud of her boys. Nicki and her boys later moved to Alberta. Clayton lived with his Dad and part time with his Mom and Colten shared time between his Mom and his Gramma Deb. Nicki worked hard and long hours to provide for her sons. She educated herself in the healthcare field and worked with seniors in different locations around the Alberta Peace Country.
Nicki loved quadding, camping and the bush. She especially loved camping on May long weekend; rain, snow or shine, she would be enjoying laughter around a campfire. Nicki could set up a cozy camp with necessities for all weather. Once her friends teased about everything she brought camping. In the morning they woke up to a foot of snow and Nicki was dressed warmly with her hot coffee and warm fire. She teased them all day as they shivered in their tents. Nicki has a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She also loved to shop in thrift stores and enjoyed "girl-time" at Value Village with her mom.
Nicki was predeceased by her sister Tara Lynn Trask, closest friend Sarah Bourdeaux and Colten’s father, Stephen Hosking.
I leave you with the words of her sons: Mom was a shooting star. She burned brilliantly for a short time and then was gone. She was, is, and always will be loved by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Nicki's Life was held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Nawican Friendship Centre, Dawson Creek B.C. George and Darcy Desjarlais officiated. Interment will be at a later date.
