Obituary of Anna-Marie Homme

Anna-Marie Homme, a long time resident of Hythe, Alberta passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013 in Hythe, Alberta at the age of 92 years. Anna was born is Alsace Lorraine, a village on the French-German border, the Maginot Line ran through it. As a child Anna was educated in both French and German, she also took singing lessons. Anna and her husband Kurt immigrated to Canada and settled in Minto, Southern Manitoba, but sadly lost all their belongings in a fire. They then moved to Brandon, Manitoba where her husband obtained work for Pearson Construction. He was transferred to Selkirk where he worked for 14 years. Kurt passed away in an accident on the way to work. Anna bought a trailer and came West with the children. They came through Saskatchewan, Alberta, crossed the B.C. border and up the Alaska Highway to Muncho Lake. There Anna met a local, eligible bachelor, Knut Homme. Soon they were happily settled in the old Ivan Homme Farmstead five and a half miles East of Hythe along with Mrs. Homme senior. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Hythe Pioneer Lodge. Interment will be at a later date. Anna is predeceased by her first husband Kurt Hempler, daughter Esther Hempler, three sisters and her parents. Anna is survived by her seven boys: Walter, Robert (Donna), George (Monica), John, Mickey (Jane), Perry, and Steven (Ruth); daughter Elizabeth (Garth) and her husband Knut Homme, along with numerous grandchildren. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Anna to the Hythe Nursing Home Foundation, mailed in to or left at the Hythe Continuing Care Centre, 10307-100th Street Hythe, AB T0H2C0.
